Beauty Diaries: MAC Technique

I was recently able to attend a makeup class called “MAC technique” conducted by the MAC Pro store. It was a basic class to show you how to take your makeup look from day to night.

You basically got to watch a makeup artist do someone else’s makeup while they give you tips and tricks. It was pretty helpful, but of course, it woulda been more beneficial for me if the model was closer to my skin tone and/or if they recommended more products that would work well on all skin tones. Nonetheless, I did learn a few thangs and got to play around with some products, and picked up a couple of the ones used in the class. They have classes that are more hands on, so I hope to take some of those in the future.

Here are some of my takeaways:

1. Hand placement on your brush is extremely important. Holding your brush closer to the hairs (like you would a pencil), will give you more control and help you apply stronger pressure. Holding your brush farther away, towards the tip will give you less pressure and less control.

2. When doing your eye shadow, keep your eyes open. A lot of times, we instinctively close our eyes when applying eye shadow. But, it makes more sense to have our eyes open because thats how the makeup will actually look on your eyes. We don’t walk around with our eyes closed!

3. If you don’t already have it, get MAC Fix + and store it in the fridge! It instantly wakes up your face in the morning before you start applying makeup (after cleaning, before moisturizing), or in the middle of the day to refresh your makeup. I tried it, it feels so bomb! (btw I actually own MAC Charged Water, its interchangeable with Fix + and the make up artist that sold it to me convinced me its better than Fix + but who knows)

These seem like small tips but they have actually helped me out A LOT and I think my makeup application is already getting better.

Lets take a look at some of the products I bought that day.

MAC Studio Sculpt Lash mascara is great because it has the brush bristles only on one side so you don’t mistakenly get mascara on your eye lid. Especially great for people like me who have super curly lashes.

Another amazing product I picked up is the MAC Half Lash curler. When used upside down, it helps straighten out super curly lashes and the half size makes it easier to use.

My favorite product I picked up which I absolutely loove love lovvvveeeee is the MAC Sculpting Powder in Definitive. (seen on the right) It’s my new go -to contour powder.

This is the MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Quite Natural. I have been experimenting with using it as a primer. Not sure if I love it or hate it yet. Seems to work well enough.
